Lighting Techniques

Below are examples of cross lighting (a light in each courner) and a key light above (the main light that lights the subject) Slaves (infrared sensors) where used to make the lights flash.

The key light highlights his face while the other four in each courner highlight the rest of his face so that it doesn't look flat.

White balance: Fluorescent (4000k)
ISO: 200
Shutter Speed: 1/125
Aperture: F11

The two front courner lights are turned off.

The face is still lite by the key light while the back two courner lights highlight behind him, without them the model looks flat.

White balance: Fluorescent (4000k)
ISO: 200
Shutter Speed: 1/125
Aperture: F11

I turned up my aperture up by one stop to see whether is was a better exposure. As you can see to the image on the left it makes the model darker.

White balance: Fluorescent (4000k)
ISO: 200
Shutter Speed: 1/125
Aperture: F16

This time all four courner lights are turned off and the key light is kept on.

The model looks flat because the only light is on the front of his face and no other detail is in darkness.
White balance: Fluorescent (4000k)
ISO: 200
Shutter Speed: 1/125
Aperture: F11
